Edward Bomsey, President of Edward N. Bomsey Autographs, Inc. (a Virginia corporation), is a well-known figure in the professional autograph world. A collector himself, as well as a dealer in autographs for over 25 years, Bomsey is recognized for his expertise in, amongst other areas, autographs of the Presidents of the United States, Associate Justices of the United States Supreme Court and the Chief Justices of the United States.
Mr. Bomsey is a past President of the Manuscript Society, a former Director of the Professional Autograph Dealers Association (PADA), a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA), and a Life Member of the Universal Autograph Collectors Club (UACC).
He was for 10 years the “Auction Trends” editor/columnist for the Manuscript Society’s magazine Manuscripts, wrote the Supreme Court section for the Society’s Checklist, formerly wrote the “Recent Autograph Dealer Catalogue Gems” column for the Society’s News. He has contributed over the years to such publications as the UACC’s Pen & Quill.
Bomsey received an Award of Distinction and President’s Award from the Manuscript Society and was also a drafter of its Code of Ethics. He also received the 1988 UACC Distinguished Service Award for his service as a Director of that organization, for chairing the drafting of the organization’s Constitution, By-laws, and Code of Ethics, and for his work in organizing autograph shows and fairs.
He has significant experience in autograph appraisal work, including the papers of prominent journalists, members of the judicial and legislative branches of government, members of the Society of the Lees of Virginia, and other organizations and private individuals.
